Natalia Chai – an independent, solo Edmonton based R&B/Neo Soul/Hip hop singer-songwriter. An unconventional combination to most but will turn curious ears to the sounds of real life issues on a global yet individual level. Through humble chords of 7ths and 9ths, Natalia collaborated with local producer and music engineer, Justin McDonough from Resonate Studios to release her “Connections” EP in March 2017 – a small album that tackles big society issues from workplace dissatisfaction to refugees displaced by senseless wars to inequality.
Classically trained in piano from the age of 6, Natalia quickly became drawn to the sounds of R&B, Soul, Hip-hop and most recently to Motown drawing from respective influences such as Alicia Keys, Maxwell, Erykah Badu, Jodeci, Lauryn Hill, Brian McKnight, Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin and many more. Natalia sets an intimate stage with her audience, her music and piano and turns a rocky day into a smooth conclusion with her sultry voice described by listeners as “honey to the ears”. Although new to the music scene, Natalia has performed at many Edmonton venues, busked on city streets and also expanded her music to Calgary. Natalia envisions to personify in her music, her healthcare background as a pharmacist, her fashion and travel blogs inspiration to empower youth, in particular young women to be educated, confident, powerful, independent, beautiful and future leaders of the world.
Natalia released her most recent project this past June in 2018, CONNECTED LP working again with Dunna on an album that targets a personal but transcends to a universal stage. She wants her music to not only speak to her own situations but to be reflective of someone else's life. The album experiments with smoother hip-hop sounds but maintains the R&B/Neosoul root. Her first single and music/lyric video, S.O.S (SOcial Support) off the album was released January 31, 2018 in conjunction with the national movement Bell Let’s Talk Day to bring mental health up to the forefront. August 15,2018 the official music video for "Regretful Acquaintance" was released in association with NAV and Stagelab Productions. Natalia recently had a once in a lifetime opportunity to perform on an international level at the 2018 Chengdu International Sister Cities Youth Music Festival. Natalia is also collaborating with other local producers for smaller music projects that will surface later in the year! “Humble beginnings come great things” leaves a huge resonance with Natalia as she slowly makes her music dream a reality one music note at a time. Natalia wants to stay “CONNECTED” with you through her journey so please make sure to subscribe to her mailing list, social media, and her music to stay up to date about Natalia Chai Music's latest projects!
