PROSENJIT GUY KUNDU (INDIA)

~ International Choreographer. Dancer. Actor. Model. ~

Camp Kundu ~ Kundu House Project

Aka Kundu, I met him online via our mutual beautiful friend and you have heard me say her name thousands of time, Reina Gandy! I was actually pretty shocked and humbled that Kundu believed in this vision and was all hands on in supporting this project! "Having danced professionally since 1998, Prosenjit Guy Kundu has been actively involved in the Underground Dance Scene for over 3 decades. Prosenjit, who is of Indian and French descent discovered the art of Hip Hop dancing in 1990 in Virginia, when he was only 15. Two years later at 17, he stumbled upon a D.C. house club by the name of Tracks and fell in love with the energy and flow of House dance. On turning 18, he attended Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia, where he acquired a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Dance and Choreography. By day, he formally trained in the dance forms of Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Tap and African at VCU and by night was pursuing dance styles such as Breakdancing, House, Hip Hop, Popping and Locking at underground clubs. After his schooling, he moved to New York City to fuel his fervor for dance and realise his vision. Prosenjit began teaching at studios throughout Manhattan while simultaneously working as a professional dancer. Today, he continues to perfect his craft as a dancer, his teaching and dancing skills has taken him across the globe to countries like Spain, England, Italy, Netherlands, Germany, France, Denmark, Korea, Taiwan, India, Nepal, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, Canada and USA."

For an international dance figure of his calibre to support a noname amateur artist like myself says a lot about his character and compassion in supporting all artists of all stages from all walks of life! Check out Kundu's work throughout the years (very impressive!) and what he's got going on now!

ROXANNE (ROXY) PERICH

This is Roxy! I met her through a mutual friend named Darren Gee (for those of you who have followed my journey may recognize his name because he helped me take loads of my photos in the past for my #CONNECTED LP and designed my business cards etc).  Roxy is originally from Venezuela and has been living in Canada for 12 years.  She is now a proud Canadian and grateful for all the opportunities this country has given her over the years. Growing up Roxy danced Flamenco and then transitioned to Hip Hop when she moved to Edmonton.  She started her pole journey back in 2017 and since then has become very passionate about the sport.  Roxy is now a pole instructor at Aradia Fitness but she never stops being a student and finds the sport very humbling. Roxy's passions are dancing, singing, hiking, training at the studio and reading. I know right?! How do you look so beautiful, elegant, bawse and strong all at the same time hanging in mid air?! To find out, please share the love and learn more about her journey below! In the meantime, Roxy and I will be getting some post-quarantine ice cream!

EVA & SHAN (VIENNA, AUSTRIA)

I met Eva and Shan in the summer of 2018 at the Chengdu International Sister Cities Youth Music Festival where I had the once in a lifetime opportunity to share my sound on the international stage in front of the world. Eva and Shan were representing Vienna in a hip-hop dance crew and did they ever bring the heat! It was at our 2nd venue at Dujiangyan 都江堰 where I met these two beautiful ladies and 2 years later, our creative paths are crossing once again! They currently do not have any planned projects this upcoming year but that doesn't mean that you can't get connected with them. I am so grateful that they believed in this project and I believe that we met half way across the world to come back together in another creative form!

KTLco

                                     The 86 Collective

Representing the true West Coast of Canada, please meet the four dancers from Vancouver who will be featured in my project.

Kill The Lights Co." - otherwise known as KTLco or KTL. @ktlco  KTL is a Vancouver urban dance company founded by Ken Yung (@kennonnn) and Shauna Smith (@shaunalynne4), and is ran under the studio Harbour Dance Centre. The company offers intensive mentorship training that focuses on giving individual dancers recognition in the dance industry and helping them to achieve their goals.

We train vigorously in many sectors, such as stage presence, branding ourselves, how to approach auditors, getting an agent, having guest teachers from all over the world come in, rounding ourselves out as dancers, freestyling, being given the chance to create choreography, teach, and create our own choreography videos. Occasionally, we will perform at events in the lower mainland (none upcoming… yet.) but past events have included “The Main Event” to marriage proposals which garnered over 2.7 million views!

A newer program titled “The 86 Collective” (@the86collective), ran by JP Tarlit (@jptarlit), a pioneer in the Vancouver dance scene. The program focuses on exploring ourselves as dancers and our capabilities, as well as delving into freestyle, grooving, and having a good time all around.

I originally reached out to Julian via Reina Gandy (once again she is absolutely awesome!) who forwarded my project to his friends who came up with an amazing choreographed dance to "Made For You". Courtesy of KTLco's posts, I would love to share the stories of each dancer who you will see featured in my project! Thank you all so much!

Julian Lucila started dancing at age 12 training in classical and modern ballet under both his parents, Ida Beltran and Jojo Lucila. Julian then continued his formal dance training with the Edmonton School of Ballet, School of Alberta Ballet, and the Banff Centre Festival Dance, training in classical ballet, contemporary, and jazz. Under the mentorship of these dance schools, Julian was chosen to compete internationally in the Cecchetti International Ballet Competition to represent Canada. Julian has also performed with Chameleon Dance Ensemble, and with Chameleon, he was given the opportunity to participate in the Aberdeen International Youth Festival in Scotland as a Canadian representative. ⁣
⁣
In 2017, Julian then moved to Vancouver, BC and fell in love with the urban contemporary and hip-hop styles. Julian joined Weekend Warriors training program to train under Eric Malapad. This has then propelled him to be part of projects such as Illustrative Society’s ‘Awaken’. Currently, he is a part of 86 Collective and KTLCo.⁣
⁣
Julian is a proud immigrant of this country, and he aspires to become a choreographer that contributes to Canada’s diverse dance community, while leaving a footprint of his own heritage and experience. ⁣

“Jancee” Custodio (Choreographer for "Made For You"), 21, found his love for dance in high school, teaching himself the foundations of Hip Hop online and competing in competitions during his final years in high-school. After graduating, Jancee continues to coach and mentor his old high-school’s dance teams - sharing his passion for dance with younger generations. As of last year, he decided to dance more regularly and more seriously and is excited to train with KTL to continue honing his craft! Grateful for the opportunities and lessons he has received so far, Jancee is eager to learn more and more each day with the rest of the company, and looks forward for what is in store for him!

Olivia is an ambitious, bold, aspiring choreographer who began her dance journey in Toronto - where she trained in afro and dancehall styles with Jan 'Snapp' Yalda (@snappahz), Dancehall Donz (@dancehalldonz), Black Stars TO (with @greg.samba, @plantainpercy), Brandon 'Bizzy' Owusu (@bizzyboom), and in street jazz with Oleg Kasynets (@olegkasynets).⁣
⁣
After moving back to Vancouver, she choreographed and performed with the Weekend Warriors (led by @ericmalapad), in events like @mainevent604. Through her calm and infectious energy, Olivia aims to inspire others through movement and storytelling by producing concept videos, hype choreography, and compelling online content. This year, she is excited to explore new platforms to immerse herself in hip hop through KTL.⁣
⁣
Outside of dance, Olivia holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of British Columbia. Her business-oriented mindset has allowed her to effectively network, develop relationships in the industry, and identify her brand as a creator and performer. She is an advocate for diversity, inclusion, and body positivity - and wants to use dance as a platform to further these values.⁣

Chris is a positive, driven and passionate dancer who fell in love with the idea of entertaining at an early age. He grew up idolizing pop stars/boybands like Justin Timberlake, Usher, Michael Jackson and ‘NSYNC. Through watching countless music videos, award shows and tours/concerts he knew that being on stage was a path he wanted to take. He began to take baby steps into dance by learning Michael Jackson grooves and “viral” dances which eventually brought him to joining a high school dance class. Chris would go to clubs to work on freestyle and performance.⁣
⁣
Chris has always carried a dance style which mixes stage-like boyband flare with a modern and energetic flavour. Wanting to grow his vocabulary in dance, Chris trained and performed with @weekendwarriorshdc under @ericmalapad’s mentorship. Since then, Chris has continued training with various choreographers in Vancouver and Los Angeles, including mentorship programs with @culturallydefined and @illustrativesociety. He is extremely excited to work on becoming a more versatile dancer and pushing himself out of his comfort zone through KTL Co. this year. ⁣
⁣
Outside of dance, Chris works as a sales recruiter in the IT industry. Through this experience he is able to network, foster relationships and think logistically. Dance has helped him discover a lot about himself and it has positively impacted his professional and personal life. Chris always stays true to himself and strives to push for diversity. He lives with an “anything is possible” mindset and is extremely excited to see where dance takes him.⁣

MASANI ST ROSE-TOTH

"Educator. Choreographer. Dancer. Life is what you make it."

I met Masani last summer at an event called Fresh Air Moment! This beautiful soul is a huge force in our local Caribbean and African dance community such as CariWest Festival, St. Lucia Carnival and 5Artist1Love. Masani Consulting Services have been described by those who have participated in her classes as "[liberating] the soul while exploring movement inspired by West Africa. [Masani] is compassionate, caring and a vibrant dance teacher." Despite the temporary closures, this did not stop Masani from holding regular online classes with her loyal dance family notably at Sugar Swing. In addition, Masani is also a part of a project later this month called Sabali : Patience through breath, movement, drums being held May 31. If you want to learn more about our local Caribbean/African Queen and if you want to VIBE with her, check out her pages to connect with Masani!

Marglen is originally from Venezuela 🇻🇪 but have been living in Ecuador🇪🇨 for the last 2 years. She has been dancing since the age of 3 with increased interest in the Hip-Hop culture starting in 2011. Over time, Marglen traveled the whole country of Venezuela competing in dance battles and attending talks with great national and international dance legends who shared their experiences and knowledge about the dance community. Although only 20 years old, Marglen is already an established and diverse dancer and artist. She studies and trains in many dance styles that includes HipHop, Popping, Waacking, House, Dancehall, Breaking and Afro styles. DID YOU KNOW?! All 3 of these wonderful women and new friendships were made possible through one person and her name is Reina Gandy! Reina is arguably the world's greatest supporter of the arts and every artist. Thank you Reina for connecting us all and to allow my vision to come true through music and dance!

Something "Made For You" Collaborations

Aristotles aka. Ary

You may recognize this "stank" face on many stages back in the "good old days" before COVID19 paused our live music culture. Ary is a jack of all traits - he slays the keys, he is 1 of 6 band members in the local band Melafrique (I am a proclaimed HUGE fan!) and a talented producer for a diverse roster of musicians globally! We started working on "Made For You" back in the summer of 2019 with a shared vision for this track. During our studio sessions Ary understood the vibe and "feel" that I envisioned - a retro, 90's R&B, feel good and smooth groove! In many ways he was also a coach - a very patient coach! He was one of the first to really push me to break through my stubborness and use my "real" singing voice. For those of you who have listened to my earlier projects you should notice a change in tone - fuller, more direct, with greater clarity and control! I have a lot of respect and remain grateful that a musician and artist of his calibre was willing to collaborate with me through my learning curve! Huge respect to Ary for not only our track "Made For You" but also for the music he continues to gift the world! Please show Ary some love!

PRE-SAVE "Made For You" that will be releasing April 24, 2020! I guarantee this track will get you off your feet and maybe break a dance move you never knew you had in you!

Emmanuel Ekanem

Emmanuel is another "one of those" musicians. Like Ary, Emmanuel's musicianship is a divine gift - "one of those". His ability to create and transform a melody into a story line on the fly was an honour to witness in the studio. On top of that, his ability to harmonize perfectly in just 3 takes was amazing! I am again very grateful to have amazing talent and musicianship bring my track to another level and I am so excited to share "Made For You" this coming Friday, April 24, 2020!! Please share the love and spread the positivity and big-ups to these two gentlemen who helped make another dream and vision come true!

"Ride or Die" Collabs

Jey Blaq of VestEd!Music is hands down one of the very few in the local industry who has had my back from day one when we first started working together in 2018. Not only have we fostered a professional relationship but also a relationship that became a friendship with the whole family! I am very grateful and honored to have incredible talent and visionary such as Jey himself to help bring my new focus and new found sound for Natalia Chai Music to life on my newest single to be released February 28,2020. Jey Blaq has a "well rounded sense of the vybes of today and yesteryear". His appreciation for music and creations have caught not only the attention of local Edmonton artists but his collaborations span across the world with "the desire to connect with & and inVest young musical creators". I have the utmost respect for Jey who challenges me to become my highest self both personally and musically. There are many more projects from our collaborations to come this year so please #stayconnected. As Jey Blaq would say:

When I first heard about Jeff Hendrick I couldn't believe that he was from Edmonton! This is not to say that we don't have talent here in the city but the style, the vibe and the musicality of Jeff's music and instrumentation easily can be sourced to Chicago and Philadelphia urban R&B roots almost entirely unheard of here in our yellow prairies. Jeff's stage presence "has captured fans both domestically and internationally, and his other talents as a saxophonist and keyboard player have truly made him a unique musical entity". When I wrote "Ride or Die" I immediately knew that Jeff's saxophone and musical gifts will boost the whole vibe of my song. I was so lucky to have such an international talent to be a part of my project!
